Our story

In August of 2022, a small team of people began dreaming of a church with one simple goal—to introduce people to Jesus and connect with God’s greater story for their lives. Without an official name, website, or permanent location, 32 people gathered to pray, dream, and begin shaping this new movement in Northwest Harris County. Within a couple of weeks, The Church Story Collective was officially organized, and gatherings became more consistent, quickly connecting with hundreds of people in the first few months.

Why Church Story Collective? First, the Church is not new and it has been shaping a greater story all around the world for more than 2,000 years. The people of Church Story get to experience this same story, but specifically in these days for this city. It is the story that is most important, not the gathering place. Even more, each person has a story that God begins to rewrite as he or she follows Jesus. The dream from day one is that there would be an incredible collection of stories shaped by God’s love in the lives of ordinary people. As those stories come alive, people begin to realize the extraordinary purpose God has designed for them and live it out everywhere they go.

You are invited to come and see for yourself. Jump into a new story with other ordinary people and discover the extraordinary purpose God has for you.

Frequently asked questions

Ask anything you want to know about our services and church
I heard Church Story was a non-denominational church. What does non-denominational mean?

It means that we are not affiliated with a denomination, such as Baptist, Methodist, etc. In organizing this church, our desire was to be an attractive environment for those who do not regularly attend church. We feel that denominational titles mean more to people who already attend church than people who don’t. We have discovered that there are more disadvantages to a denominational title than there are advantages.

How do I become a member of Church Story?

Everyone is welcome at Church Story and many quickly decide they want to become members. Your decision to become a member means that you are committed to the mission and strategy to introduce people to Jesus by personally knowing God, growing with others, and making a difference in the places of influence that you have inside and outside of Church Story gatherings. Members accomplish this by faithfully gathering together, serving others, contributing financially, and influencing important decisions for the future of the church.

What is the governance of Church Story?

Church Story is Guided by Pastors, Protected by Overseers, and Influenced by Members. The Pastoral Staff team is led by Lead Pastor, Wes Jackson. He oversees the day-to-day ministry and operations of the church. The lead pastor, along with other pastoral staff, serve the congregation and is responsible for the development of the spiritual life of the church. The Board of Overseers are members of the congregation chosen to oversee the finances and provide counsel to the Lead Pastor regarding major financial commitments of the church while also maintaining accountability for the lead pastor in the event that he becomes biblically disqualified to lead.  The Membership of Church Story influences significant leadership and financial decisions by voting on the annual budget, additions to the Board of Overseers, any potential debt over $500k, and final approval or removal of the Lead Pastor.

What are the Church Story Core Beliefs

The Bible - The Bible is the revelation of the Creator to his creation. In the Bible, God tells us who he is, who we are, what his plan is for his creation and how we are to relate to him. The Bible was inspired by God, making it free from error and completely trustworthy to teach us the truth. It is the ultimate source of authority in the life of all believers.
1 Timothy 3:16 | 2 Peter 1:12-21

God - God has always existed. He is our creator and the maker of all things that exist. He exists as one God in three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God is infinite, uncreated, all-knowing, all-present, all-powerful, loving, just and holy.
Deuteronomy 6:4 | Numbers 23:19 | Acts 17:24-25 | Psalm 90:2

Jesus Christ - Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became human, without ceasing to be God, in order to come into his creation and save us from our sin, fulfilling all the prophecies made about him in the Old Testament. After living a sinless life, He was crucified and died. He was buried, and three days later he came back to life, proving that he is Lord of all, even over death.
Colossians 1:15-20 | John 1:1 | John 1:14 | John 14:61 | John 2:1:2 | Hebrews 1:1-3

The Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit is God, as are God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. The Holy Spirit convicts believers when we sin, teaches the truth about Jesus, and lives inside of those who are saved, regenerating us and empowering us to become more and more like Christ until Christ returns.
John 14:16 | John 14:26 | John 15:26 | John 16:13-14 | Romans 8:26-27

People - Humanity was created by God. We were created without sin. However, humanity sinned and has been sinful ever since. This sin separates us from God’s presence and leaves us spiritually dead, even before we are born and in need of life. No one is capable of being good enough to save themselves. We need a Savior.
Genesis 1:26-28 | Psalm 14:2-3 | Romans 3:23 | Ephesians 2:1-10

Salvation - Since we are separated from God by our sin, a penalty must be paid. This penalty is eternal separation from God. In his love and mercy, Jesus Christ came to Earth, God in the flesh, to pay an infinitely sufficient price for us on the cross. Each person is saved as they place their faith in Jesus Christ as their only hope for salvation.
John 5:24 | Romans 5:1 | Romans 6:23 | Ephesians 2:8 | 1 John 1:9

Church - The Church is made up of every believer that lives or has ever lived, regardless of ethnic identity or geographic location. Church Story is a local expression of this Church, existing for the purpose of encouraging one another, teaching one another, holding one another accountable, and worshipping God together. The Church is God’s instrument for reaching the world for his glory, so we strive to display the image of God by reflecting his love in the community around us.
Acts 2:42-45 | Romans 12:5 | 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 | Ephesians 4:4

Eternity - One day, still in the future, Jesus Christ will return for his Church. When he does, there will be a resurrection of the dead. His Church will be taken up from the Earth to meet him in the air as he returns. There will be a day of judgment of every person that has ever lived. Those who belong to Jesus Christ will be taken into his presence for eternity, where we will forever glorify our creator. Those that are not his will be sent into a place of eternal torment, separated from God.
Matthew 25:31-46 | John 14:1-3 | 1 Thessalonians 1:7-9 | 2 Peter 3:13

Worship Gatherings - We demonstrate biblical worship by the reading and teaching of God’s Word, the singing of songs, and the taking of communion.
1 Chronicles 16:9 | Acts 2:42 | 1 Corinthians 11:26 | 2 Timothy 4:2

Giving - As faithful stewards of what God has given to us, every Christian should give back to God generously and sacrificially. These resources are used to support the church, provide relief for those in need, and to spread the gospel.
Proverbs 3:9 | 1 Corinthians 9:7 | 1 John 3:17-18
